Visiting a Viennese sign painter

Walking through the fourth district of our city, we recently discovered what seemed to be a sign painting workshop. The owner was a retired, third-generation sign painter – said to be the last of his kind in Vienna.

Sadly his effort to keep the shop running did not work out, because recent computer and production techniques are supposedly more efficient. For me, it’s clear that these efficient methods also mean a lack of individuality on our streets and a more and more monotonous appearance for the street. All of you Beisls, jewelers, barbers and bakeries, keep sign painting alive, please!
